What Type of Lights Can You Hang on a Wall Without Drilling?
First things first, it’s important to know which types of lights you can attach to a wall without drilling and which you can’t.
For example, if a light is not battery powered and needs to be wired to the wall, you will have to drill into the wall to connect the light to the electricity source.
With that in mind, there are a few different types of lights we can use: battery-powered wall sconces, LED strip lights, string lights (or fairy lights), and plug-in wall lights.
How to Hang Lights on a Concrete Wall Without Drilling
Now that we know the kinds of lights we can hang on the wall without drilling, let’s look at how we can go about doing it:
Adhesive Hooks
The first option to hang your lights without drilling is to use adhesive hooks.
The idea here is to connect your lights to either the ceiling or a higher part of the wall that isn’t concrete, and then use a hook on the wall to wrap your light’s wire around, allowing it to hang on the wall directly below the hook itself.
These hooks are designed to stick to both smooth and not-so-smooth surfaces, making them ideal for use on concrete. As well, they can also support a moderate amount of weight – much more than required for a light fixture.
To install an adhesive hook, simply peel off the backing, press the hook onto the wall and hold for 30-40 seconds. Once the hook is firmly in place, you can wrap your light fixture’s wiring around the hook.
Command Strips
Another option to hang lights on a concrete wall is to use command strips. We’ve talked about these before in our how to hang LED strip lights here.
Command strips are a type of adhesive strip that can be attached to the wall, which you then attach another command strip to, which you attach your wall feature to.
They work by creating a strong bond between the wall and the item being hung, and as well they are also easy to remove and won’t damage the wall when you have to do so.
Command strips therefore are great option for attaching lights to the wall.
Alternative Options
We should also note that there are alternative options – while concrete walls may be difficult to drill into (although an electric drill will be able to do it!), there are other ways to light up a room without needing to hang lights on a concrete wall.
Hang Lights on Furniture in the Room
One alternative is to hang string lights on room furniture, such as on a curtain rod, bed headboard, or nightstand.
Or if it’s a lounge or living room we’re talking about, it might be a coffee table or TV stand that you hang the lights on.
When hanging string lights on furniture, just make sure that the furniture is stable and can support the weight of the lights. String lights don’t usually weigh that much, but you can use hooks or clips to help secure the lights in place if you need to.
Ceiling Lights
Rather than drilling into a concrete wall, one solution is to install lights that are wired in to the ceiling instead. This eliminates the need for holes in the wall, while at the same time providing the same level of light.

As well, ceiling lights come in a lot of different form factors and styles, so you’re sure to find one that will perfectly suit your space.
And as an added plus, many ceiling lights (especially ones that use LED bulbs) are designed to be energy-efficient and can help to lower your electricity bill.
Overall, installing ceiling lights is a great way to add light to a room without needing to drill into a concrete wall, making it an ideal solution for many homeowners.
Floor/Table Lamps
Floor lamps are a great alternative to wall lights and can provide the same level of illumination while also adding a decorative element to your room.

You also have table lamps as an option. Simply place a nightstand or table next to the concrete wall, and place your table lamp on top of that.
